WELCOME TO

Bar M7 Ranch, The Becher Place

 $3,500,000

THE AREA

Riske Creek is an historic community about 40km west of Williams Lake on the Chilcotin Highway (Hwy 20).  The area was settled first in the 1860s and the ranch established in 1886.

THE PROPERTY

Preempted from the crown in 1886, the property was initially developed by George (Gerald) Dester and Fred Becher "Beecher".  Original land size was 160 acres of what became known as Becher's Prairie.  Located in the heart of prime cattle country, the ranch devloped into more than 3600 deeded acres with substantial holdings under lease and government grazing permits.  The portion offered for sale here consists of the "home place" about 656 acres.  Currently the 38 acre Becher Meadow produces hay along with about 75 acres on Becher Prairie which produces good quality alfalfa.  The remainder is in pasture and treed range.

THE HOME

Built in 1989 by the current owners, this is a log construction by the well known Pioneer Log Homes group whose reputation for quality log homes is world known.  The home is beautiful and offers 5 bedrooms, expansive living and dining areas, a wonderful kitchen and fabulous wide, covered wrap round decks.  The 30' pool and exposed aggregate patio give a good inkling into the serene and happy family life style that awaits all who visit.

MAIN FLOOR

Not just a main floor, this is the heart of the home, the center of the ranch business and one of the best entertainment areas you will find.  Enter through the front door into a foyer adjacent to the kitchen, or enter through the spacious mud/laundry room and you immediately feel that comfort of a friendly ranch house.

KITCHEN

The kitchen offers much more than a place to cook and clean.  It's strategic location gives immediate intimate access to the living room, the eating nook, a sliding door view of the patio and pool and overlooks the main yard.  From here you are as close to guests and family and part of all the goings on at get-togethers.  In addition to an eating bar, this kitchen offers a center island that appears to be lovely wood.  look closer, it is actually a very large cutting block for the heavy cutting ability that hunters and ranchers need.  Cabinets are knotty fir and you will certainly enjoy the western ranch theme that the building craftsmen created here.

LIVING ROOM

Large gatherings are not a problem here.  This room is huge.  It offers 2 walk outs to the patio and pool.  At one end is an incredible and massive river rock fireplace, in the center a comfortable seating area and at the other end room for the grand piano and dancing guests.  The massive vaulted ceiling, railed walkway along the edge of the upper level and the tremendous main log beam all radiate a warmth even without a fire going.

DINING ROOM

The most formal room in the home.  Seating for a dozen or more is simple here.  There are lots of windows looking over the drive and main yard but there is also a wonderful feeling of intimacy at the largest and smallest dinner parties. Separated from the kitchen and nook but double glazed doors.

OFFICE

Ranch business has to be done somewhere and where better than overlooking the south fields, pool and patio.  From here window surveillance of the drive is also provided and it is just a short few steps to the kitchen for coffee.  Spacious for furniture and filing yet easily closed off when entertaining by a glazed glass door.

FAMILY ROOM

It is wonderful what can be done with large floor plans.  The younger members of the family must have a TV room, a room for family internet, home work and even for a "kids room".  This family room offers all of it.  Behind the gorgeous fireplace is this quiet, out of the way study.  A beautiful built in double desk, and room for family activities all in a neat little hideaway.

MUD ROOM

Every ranch house needs a decent size mud room and this is it.  Doubling as a laundry, here is space for winter clothes, muddy boots, washing up before entering the main home and temporarily storing the bridles and riding tack while having a quick lunch.

UPPER LEVEL

Close by the front door and the mud room are the log stairs leading up to the loft area and down to the full basement.  Let's go up.  At the top of the stairs is a nice landing, furnished and perfectly suited for a cozy reading area.  The is a full bathroom to service the two secondary bedrooms found along the loft walkway.

MASTER BEDROOM

Expansive and tranquil are probably a bit understated but you will see what we mean.  This is a true retreat from the home.  Occupying one entire end of the upper floor, the master bedroom offers full bath, spacious closets and river rock fireplace.  In addition you will find a covered deck overlooking the back yard and all of the southern fields.  Upon leaving the master bedroom, you overlook the living room.

BEDROOM 2 & 3

Both are quite good size and the loft walkway allows for sitting and visiting areas along it's length.  A solid railing and seating areas provide safe viewing over the living room.

LOWER LEVEL

This partially finished basement also offers lots of room.  At the bottom of the stairs you are first drawn to the massive wood burning furnace that can provide enough heat for even the coldest days.  There is an exterior door and large open, unfinished play area.  At one end is an access to the 4 ft crawl space beneath the office and dining room and along the north wall is a cold room, file room and storage room.

BEDROOM 4 & 5

One is very large.  It is a terrific guest room but watch out.  It may be so comfortable the guests decide to stay!  It includes a small office work area and is very quiet.

Between the bedrooms is another full bath.  The second downstairs bedroom is also a good size.

These rooms simply invite friends to stay over.
